CEO’s Christmas Message 2018 - LTDC

As it is usually the case at this time of the year, we all reflect on how quickly the year has passed and we are met with excitement at the prospects of closing the 2018 chapter of our lives.

We embarked on plenty of hard work together with our valued tourism partners and this makes us look forward to enjoying the festive season. During the year, LTDC participated and implemented a number of initiatives aimed at ensuring that Lesotho remains a reputable destination as well as promoting domestic tourism, community based tourism development and investment in the sector.

In recent months, LTDC (in collaboration with our youth) launched the tourism mobile app dubbed “Lesotho Guider” with a view to embrace digital technology in tourism marketing and to ensure that Lesotho tourism information is easily accessible to our travelers. We also saw the initiation of the Semonkong development project whereat construction of the Semonkong visitor comfort facility has begun. This project aims to enhance tourism services and product offering in Semonkong as one of Lesotho’s tourism hot spots and to ensure that Semonkong realises its tourism potential.

These could not have been achieved without the commendable support from our partners and stakeholders. We extend our warm appreciation to you all and thank you for the dedication, teamwork and positive spirit displayed by all of you during execution of day-to-day operations throughout the year.

2018 has been a challenging year globally and for us in the tourism space and in Lesotho in particular, it has not been ‘smooth sailing’ as we suffered a great loss of one of our kingdom’s best and passionate historian, Mr Tšeliso Tokonye Ramakhula. May his soul rest in peace.

On behalf of the tourism industry players in Lesotho, I warmly wish all travelers including Basotho a blessed Christmas spent responsibly in the company of friends, relatives, family and loved ones. To those who will be traveling, take care and be safe. We look forward to 2019 and it is my wish that it brings abundant opportunities for the sector in particular and the much needed jobs for Basotho.
