LTDC on training more youth in tour guiding
The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) awarded 13 trainees certificates in tour guiding in Roma after a hectic two weeks training. In the last five years the LTDC has provided training to over 100 learners throughout the country. This is part of an initiative by the corporation to produce and enhance professional Tour Guiding and equipping them with the requisite skills to be able to create sustainable jobs for themselves and also flourish the tourism sector. As a way of motivating the tour guide to unleash their full potential the industry experts were invited to the awarding ceremony to inspire them.
The trainer-Mrs. Mamotebang Ntokoane was upbeat and said trainees are now able to design a tour package. I am confident that the trained Tour Guides will be able to provide a memorable tour guiding experience to visitors added Ntokoane. On behalf of the trainees- Ms. Nthabiseng Tsunyane said the training was phenomenal and as learners they have gained a valuable knowledge such as proper handling of tourists, on site guiding at the attractions, qualities needed to become a successful Tour Guide. We are really grateful to LTDC for giving us an opportunity for training and promise to work harder for betterment of the industry added Nthabiseng.
Paballo Thlaole one of the trainees who have already established a tour operation business called “Spiral Travel” gave a testimony. I have initiated tailor made tours targeted to ladies touted as She Hikes because I realized many hikes are male dominated says Paballo. With innovative ideas I am able to put food on a table explained Paballo. She encouraged guides to make use of such opportunities as a tool to craft their own future. The youth should take charge of their own destinies advised Paballo.
The Tourism Industry expert Tšiliso Adoro shared the same sentiments and encouraged the newly trained guides to think out of the box and come up with creative ideas. Lesotho is endowed with abundant attractions and all is needed is to create fascinating activities that can keep tourists stay longer in the destination revealed Adoro. If the sector is dominated by young people, it will set up an economy to yield stable growth explained Adoro.
Mosola Letuka - Trainer and Business Advisor lauded LTDC for the noble initiative of empowering youth with skills in tour guiding. Letuka urged the guides to explore and learn about the majestic attractions Lesotho is endowed with and showcase it to the traveller visiting the Kingdom in the Sky. For tour guides to prosper they need to be complimented with a basic managerial knowledge to manage their business efficiently advised Letuka.
In his welcoming speech the Public Relations Officer of LTDC- Molapo Matela highlighted that Tour Guides provide an important part of the linkage between the host destination and visitors and they are very much responsible for creating an overall impression and gratification with the tour services provided by a destination. As a tour guide you need to be on top of your game always put more effort to research and learn of the new trends in the tourism industry recommended Matela. If as a Guide you don't love what you are doing you will never succeed, passion is an antidote to become an effective tour guide concluded Matela.
