Job Title : Manager Product Development (MPD)

Reports to  : Head Product Development & Investment Promotion (HPDIP)


Purpose of the Job

The incumbent’s function is to supervise and lead in the implementation, and monitoring of tourism product development functions at operational level. This is inclusive of among others, providing support to ancillary investment promotion initiatives both locally and internationally; facilitation of community-based tourism & tourism attraction sites development as well as supervising implementation of the accommodation sector Quality Assurance Programme.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The incumbent shall perform the duties stated below and any other duties that may be assigned to him/her from time to time

Administrative & Supervisory

• Supports the HPDIP in developing business plans, ensuring that the PDIP Department’s operational goals and objectives are achieved

• Contributes to PDIP’s monthly and quarterly plans and reports 

• Supervises and ensures implementation of product development activities

• Compile and advise HPDIP on tourism trends and developments in the local, regional and international tourism arena

• Supervise PDIP’s officers, provide support and ensure good performance 

• Assess skills and knowledge gaps and recommend required solution through training or any other approach

Tourism Product development  

• Manage tourism product development related studies

• Executes developed action plans for approved product development strategies

• Facilitate the identification and development of new tourism sites

• Coordinate management of tourism assets and their development 

• Assists private sector in the development of project proposals for development of tourism products around the country

Tourism and Community business development

• Monitors implementation of business development initiatives of LTDC, among others tourism business development programmes e.g quality star grading programme, consultative meetings etc

• Facilitates and participate in tourism public private partnerships meetings;

• Contribute to the development of LTDC’s community tourism development policy and strategies 

• Assist HPDIP in the development of action plans for approved community development strategies

• Facilitate regular local strategic partnership meetings for improved local economic development and networks for increased job creation.


Educational Qualifications

Bachelor of Commerce in International Enterprises Development or a relevant Degree in Tourism Management or Bachelor of Commerce in Management or Degree in Economics. A Relevant Master’s Degree would be an added advantage.  


Professional Experience

• A minimum of 3 year experience in product development initiatives and investment promotion

• A proven track record of successful investment facilitation would be an added advantage

• Project appraisal skills are highly desirable;

• Tourism development principles and their application

• Investment promotion skills

• Enterprises development and promotion skills

• Community development management skills

• Supervisory skills

• Computer literacy: use of Microsoft Office packages including MS Projects
