The area is within the northern district of Mokhotlong, renowned for its mountainous terrain with the highest peak the Thabana-Ntlenyana, at 3482m above sea level, and the area receives heavy snowfalls during winter. The area is also home to a rich biodiversity of flora and the endangered Bald Ibis, “mekhotlo”. The wetlands are some of Lesotho’s water sources that cascade into the “white gold of Lesotho”, its abundant water sources through streams and rivers.
